The AOC Pomerol is an appellation of origin for the municipality of Pomerol, in the wine region of Libournais in Bordeaux.
It covers an area of about 782 hectares, where most producers are small and made ??generous red wine and long life.
It is a relatively recent designation of origin, so that none of its wines are included in official classifications of Bordeaux (premier and grand crus), although these are very popular, compared to becoming premier crus wines of Médoc and Saint Emilion.

Production area
Pomerol Municipality (within the Libournais wine area), with an area covering 782 hectares.
Soil
Soils are composed of gravel, clay or sand, or all three at times within a single vineyard.
It sits on a gravel (a fact he shares with presitigiosas names of Haut-Médoc), to the south and west the soil is sandy, while to the north and east tend to clay. The subsoil is dark clay, with a high iron content.
Climate
This region has an oceanic climate.
Red Varieties
Major: Merlot (70%), Cabernet Franc (25%), Cabernet Sauvignon (5%).
Types wine
- Red wine. The wine is usually velvety and creamy. The typical aromas of plum. The style of the wines varies with the terroir. In the west, where the soil is sandy, the wines are lighter. In the south, where the ground is rough, the ratio is lower Merlot grape and wine flavors tend more towards the Medoc. The sugar has to be a minimum of 171 grams per liter of wort. The alcoholic must be between 10.5% and 15.5%.
