Production area
Covers most Graves: Located on the left bank of the Garonne river, just southeast of Bordeaux.
Climate
Oceanic.
Red Varieties
Major: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petit Verdot.
White Strains
Major: Sauvignon, Sémillon, Muscadelle
Types wine
- Red wine. Is 75% of production. They are generally considered more robust than those of Médoc, and are made using a majority of cabernet sauvignon, with smaller amounts of merlot and cabernet franc. Must contain, before any enrichment or concentration, 170 grams of natural sugar per liter and present, after fermentation, a minimum alcoholic strength of 10% alcohol.
- Dry white wine. Is 25% of production. Dry whites are made (with a mixture of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon). Must contain, before any enrichment or concentration, 187 grams of natural sugar per liter and present, after fermentation, a minimum alcoholic strength of 11% alcohol.
Planting Requirements
Base Performance. It sets an allowable yield 50 hectoliters per hectare of vineyard for red wines and white wines.
