AOC Bordeaux
The "AOC Bordeaux" is a generic AOC applies to the entire Bordeaux wine region. This AOC can be applied to red wines, white and dry whites.
It covers an area of 44,000 hectares (for red wines) and 6740 hectares (for whites), and has an annual production around 2.5 million hl (for red wines) and 420,000 hl (in the case of white).

Production area
This AOC can be applied to the entire Bordeaux wine region.
Climate
Region dominated by the tributaries of the estuary of the Gironde, Garonne and Dordogne rivers, which irrigate the land and provide an oceanic climate in the region.
Red Varieties
Major: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Carmenère, Merlot rouge, Malbec, Petit Verdot
White Strains
Major (min 70%): Semillon, Sauvignon (blanc y gris), Muscadelle
Secondary (max 30%): Merlot blanc, Colombard, Mauzac, Ondenc, Ugni blanc
Types wine
- Red wine. These wines are made from red grape varieties allowed. Must contain grape ripening 178 g/l. Its content of alcohol after fermentation, should be a minimum of 10%.
- White wine. These wines are made from white grape varieties permitted. Must contain grape ripening 178 g/l. Its content of alcohol after fermentation, should be a minimum of 10%. The residual sugar should be a minimum of 4 g/l.
- Dry white wine. These wines are made from white grape varieties permitted. Must contain grape ripening 170 g/l. Its alcohol content after fermentation, must be between 10% and 13%. The residual sugar should be a maximum of 4 g/l.
Planting Requirements
- Base Performance for reds. Must be 55 hl/ha.
- Base Performance for whites. Must be 65 hl/ha.
- Minimum plant density. 2,000 vines per hectare.
- The maximum number of buds retained after pruning. 60,000 per hectare.
