VT EXTREMADURA

The legal regulation of Extremadura "wines" first appeared in 1987 and has its highest expression in the "Regulations of the Interprofessional Wines from Extremadura" published in 1990.

Once published in 1997 Regulation of the Denomination of Origin "Ribera del Guadiana" Interprofessional Commission ceased to be active, so the industry asked the regional administration to re-regulate the words, which resulted in an Order of the Ministry of Agriculture published in December 1999.

This Order provides that all municipalities of Extremadura eligible for qualification "Regional Wine of Extremadura" and laying down the minimum requirements must meet the wines in terms of the varieties used in its preparation and various laboratory parameters .
Current legislation allows this wine category indicated on their labels a series of optional indications, such as the variety with which they are made??, the year of its production and way of aging, as oak, oak, old, etc.. These guidelines provide the consumer with information of great interest and significantly increases the level of knowledge about the type of wine that gets its hands.

Proof of this excellent situation is that in Spain there are currently a total of 42 counties qualifying for this mention. Other countries are known with the name "Pays wines" in France, "Typical Geographic Indicazione" in Italy or "Wine Rtegional" in Portugal.
