AOC Médoc
The Médoc AOC covers the northern Médoc wine region (in the Médoc peninsula).
This AOC could apply to the entire Médoc area, but generally only applies to the north as the south prefer to use the AOC Haut-Médoc, which has greater acceptance.
The area covers about 5,700 hectares of declared vineyards, representing 34.5% of total Médoc, annually producing on average 300,000 hectoliters of wine. Its mild climate and unique terroir (soil limestone gravel and clay) are conducive to the production of high quality grapes (cabernet sauvignon, merlot, petit verdot and malbec).
