Regina Viarum, Best Wine Cellar Mountain Spain in 2013

The Italian town of Sarre, in the Italian Alps, held every summer the International Wine Competition Mountain (CERVIM). A blind tasting serves to grant awards to the best wines grown in the mountains at an altitude greater than 500 meters, on land with a slope exceeding 30% and have balconies or terraces cultivation. In this edition, the jury found that the third best winery in the world and the first of Spain was Regina Viarum, the Ribeira Sacra.

This is the fifth consecutive year in which this company located in Sober (Lugo) gets the award for"Best Wine Cellar Mountain Spain in 2013", establishing it as the leading exponent of wines and wineries of heroic viticulture or altitude in our country and one of the references of this type of wine worldwide, second only to Germany's Weingut Schloss Oretenberg and Italian Cave des Onze Communes of Valle d'Aosta.

Special Prize Cervim addition, Bodegas Viarum Regina gets in International Wine Competition Mountains 3 prizes:

  • Gold Medal for Regina Expression Mencia 2010 in the category 'Still red wine vintage 2010 and earlier'.
  • Silver Medal for Regina Viarum Godello 2012 in the category 'White wines quiet'.
  • Silver Medal for ecological Mencia Regina barrel Viarum 2011 in the category 'Still red wine vintages from 2012 to 2011'.



The charge of the winery of Lugo, Ivan Gómez, born in Vigo (1978) notes that these prizes won this year help open doors to the winery on the market. The working philosophy of Bodegas Regina Viarum is part of a larger project, the group HGA Bodegas y Viñedos de Altura, whose members also Bodegas Altos de Torona and Pazo de Villarei (newly built winery) of DO Rias Baixas. Each of these wineries is a clear commitment to consolidate HGA as a reference in the sector in Galicia, with wineries designed to let you enjoy unique wines and all the secrets they contain.

In this winery, the grapes are harvested by hand using 40 people who work in 15 hectares, almost all red."We are a leader in the heroic viticulture", understood by waiving the Mechanization and terraces occurs at an angle of 60 degrees (slope in terraces). As an added bonus, the winery also offers wine tourism registando some 15,000 visitors a year.

The award made by Regina Viarum weighs more when you know that this year's event saw record attendance with 648 wines to competition from ten different countries.
