Bodegas Baigorri example of energy efficiency

According to estimates made by the division of the Group Euroconsult energy efficiency, reduce overall energy bills in the wine sector in more than 40%, it is possible, by monitoring the real-time energy management.

The architect Iñaki Aspiazu was the creator of the Bodegas Baigorri building in the town of Samaniego Alava. The integration of architecture in the landscape is one of the key points in the morphology of the winery. The building, built under the ground, it adapts to the topography of the site and only hinted abroad: architecture adopts a submissive position and respect the environment where locks. The winery visitor accesses through a glass box empty, from which you can see the full extent of vineyards that surround the resort. Since underground, the different tasks associated with the warehouse are organized at different levels, in a provision, as well as functional, it is hardly didactic about the process of winemaking.

But besides this respect for nature, Bodegas Baigorri is an example of efficient winery with over 30% savings on your energy bill, where gravity is its main ally, avoiding the use of pumps, hoppers and general machinery where the grapes may be damaged. After a phase of engineering study on the consumption patterns of the winery, the Energy Manager measures, monitors and acts in real time to correct deviations of consumption or for, among other things, selecting the cheapest electricity tariff. The platform also features an artificial intelligence system to predict the energy performance of the winery and thus expand the potential savings. This monitoring of consumption is done in all estapas wine production, with particular attention to the fermentation process accounting for 45% of energy consumption, bottling, storage and shipping (18%), which in sum account for more than half of the bill.

The head winemaker, Simon Arina, believes this project is "a real technological challenge, as it offers a real-time solution that achieves savings ranging between 30% and 40% of the energy bill, and also allows predictive maintenance of equipment as well as a sharing of costs per unit of production. "

This bet Bodegas Baigorri for energy efficiency is a strategic step in his career investing in sustainable growth projects, allowing you to get more healthy and functional wine, and thus consolidate its benchmark in the world of wine, especially in the vicinity of the Rioja region.
