Bodega Couto Mixto

Mixed Couto is a small and simple winery of the D.O. Monterrei. The name Couto Mixto refers to the situation of the vineyards justly in the frontier line "raia" between Mandín (Galicia) and Lamadarcos (Portugal).

Francisco Perez more known by the nickname of Mandín's "Xico", is a passionate personage of his natal Galicia. It is so established to the land that from all his being comes a passion for the agriculture in general and especially for the viticulture especially.

An important part of the success of this winery resides in his estates. Apart from inherited from his grandfather, the rest of the estates that it works are hired. These estates include in total a surface of 2,5 hectares but in the near future the winery will come to 5 hectares.

The wines of this winery receive two names: Couto Mixto and Arou.

Nowadays the winery is dependent on the accreditation of the Consello Regulador of Agriculture Ecolóxica of the Autonomous government of Galicia of Galicia. For the production of his wines Xico it is advised by Victor Rodríguez, his enologist. Both knew themselves in the Vine-growers' Association of Monterrei of which Victor is the technical adviser.

Both coincided with a common idea, to elaborate wine artesanalmente avoiding as far as possible to intervene in his evolution. Victor Rodríguez is, therefore, the responsabe of the control, and of the production of Couto Mixto's wines.

In his investigative zeal, Xico continues looking for a perfect wine. He believes that this one should be multivarietal though it does not reject the possibility of fulfilling any bastard's monovarietal or of souson that believes they might be call the attention.

Nowadays in Mandín's zone the viticulture is practically non-existent and the autochthonous varieties have been replaced with more productive or more fashionable others from the commercial point of view. Because of it it is of being grateful for the butlers' existence as Xico that try to put in value a wine subfield in spite of the fact that often they do not see recognized this effort.
