The D.O. Ribeiro is placed in the southern Galicia, in the northwestern edge of Ourense's province, in the confluences of the valleys formed by the rivers Miño, Avia, Arnoia and Barbantiño. It possesses an extension of 2685 hectares of vineyard located in the municipalities of Ribadavia, Arnoia, Geld It of Miño, Carballeda de Avia, Leiro, Cenlle, Beade, Punxín and Cortegada, and part of those of Boborás, San Amaro, Toén, Carballiño, Ourense. The vineyard spreads from the 75 up to 400 meters of altitude in valleys and hillsides sometimes of marked slope that is saved by terraces named socalcos or bocaribeiras that follow the level curves.

Climate
