Bodegas Viña Meín, S.L.

Founded in 1988

In 1988 Javier Alén and a small group of relatives and friends initiated, with more enthusiasm that another thing, the project to elaborate, returning to the origins of the Ribeiro, a white wine with the autochthonous Galician varieties that had given so many reputation to the wines of the zone already in the XVIth and XVIIth century. For it they replanted 16 hectares of vineyards placed in the best hillsides of the Valley of the Avia (San Clodio and Gomariz) with Treixadura, Godello, Loureira, Torrontés, Albariño, Side and Albilla, and they constructed a winery well provided with equipments of vinificación modern, that they extended some years later with a small rural hotel that receives amicably the lovers of the trying and the rest.

In Vineyard Meín they are elaborated between 80.000 and 120.000 bottles every year, most with upbringing of 6-8 months in wineries of steel, and some thousands with fermentation in casks of French and American oak of 500 liters. Also there take place approximately 1.500 bottles of Classic Red wine proceeding from 400 vine-stocks of Caiño Longo, Mencía and Iron-worker. And, certainly, rich unmatured whiskies in alcohol.

The winery of Vineyard Meín is a familiar winery, product of the teamwork of a series of professionals overturned in this exciting project.

Meín's estate appears in the books of history of Galicia as one of the first accessions of population, born in the shade of San Clodio's Monastery, so tied to the origin of the viticulture in the region of the Ribeiro in the XIth and XIIth century. That is to say, that there same, in Vineyard Meín and San Clodio Ribeiro's wine was born.
