Vinos y Bodegas Vera de Estenas

Founded in 1981

Vera de Estenas Viñedos and Wineries it is Francisco Martínez Bermell's spirit. Since he established himself in Utiel-Requena's region in 1945, it brought the exporting tradition of the Grao de Valencia. Becoming free of the family enterprise, Francisco Martínez Bermell, under D. Pascual Carrión's teaching, in the school of Requena's enology, it turned into one of the most prestigious enologists of Spain. He was elected a president of honor of the enologists' Spanish association, after being a president during two legislatures (8 years) and vice-president of the International Organization of the Wine (OIV).

In 1981 all his wine activity, which had spread out specially in Requena's municipalities and Venta del Moro, moved to the Winery Casa de Don Ángel, modernist building constructed in 1919, in Utiel's surroundings. This Winery returned to show his pioneering spirit and began an intense change that he was considering to be necessary in the viticulture of her comarca:poco to little left the exports of bulk wine and centred on improving the varieties of grape and on recovering the bobal with new types of production, all this destined for the qualit bottlings. Vera de Estenas like that turned into the first Valencian Winery in cultivating and elaborating varieties like Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec.

And this one has been the challenge that his children have continued, especially Félix Martínez Roda, that year after year elaborates a few wines with own stamp, being a public inspector to the concept of innovation, but without losing the expression of the terruño where the vineyard is cultivated. Precisely this search of own personality, which tries to unite tradition and modernity, is the legacy and the spirit of the wines Vera de Estenas.
