Sangenís i Vaqué, S.L.

Founded in 1979

In 1978 Pere SANGENÍS and Conxita I BECAME VACANT they started planting the vineyards on Pere's estates within Porrera, on the D.O. PRIORAT. We know that these estates had belonged to his mother family - MONLLEÓ - from before 1700 and that principally vineyard was cultivated in them. In fact, at the beginning of the 20th century some families of the Priory tried to bottle wine, but it was not possible due to the fact that they were difficult times socially and economically.

In 1979 Pere and Conxita they started elaborating in the winery of the Plaza Catalonia, the former winery of Josep Simó, the grandfather of Conxita, which was elaborating and a merchant of wine from 1886 up to his death. In this winery Pere has elaborated our wines during these years combining the tradition with the new trends.

Lately there have joined to the insole Maria and Núria Sangenís who share with Pere the responsibility of elaborating a few big wines. The vineyards are within Porrera, inside the D.O.Q.Priorat, planted on bench-covers and slopes, formed by the famous "decanter" (soil of slaty schists). The soils that are very poor together with the dry climate (550 mm) facilitate a minimal production and therefore a maximum quality.
