Founded in 1872
Codorníu is the history of a vine-growers' family that goes back to the 16th century. It is the history, therefore, of a country and of his progress, of the peoples of a region, of his creative and innovative capacity, of his convictions, of his aptitude to improve day after day and of answering with confidence on having developed of the times.
In 1872, Josep Raventós Fatjó - pioneer of the industry of the champaign - elaborates his first bottle of wine-cellar on having applied the traditional method to the combination of the traditional varieties of the Penedès: the Macabeo, the Xarello and the Parellada.
The experience accumulated throughout so many years expresses in the quality of our champaigns, festive reflection of everything learned, of the nobility of the humble effort of so many generations. This one is the philosophy that always it orientates to our company and that expresses with stone and art in our wine-cellars.
History, tradition, innovation and to be able to do conspire to raise in modélica architecture. The modernist wine-cellars designed by the celebrated architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch catalogued as national historical - artistic monument, is the whole symbol of the labor of the family and of the company: an honoring of stone and silence, a real cathedral of the champaign.
