Vinexpo 2013

A total of 36 DOP, 12 wines with Protected Geographical Indication (Vinos de la Tierra), five spirits with DOP, organic wines, alcoholic wines and spirits company will be flagging Spanish culture at Vinexpo 2013, as published by the portal Wines of Spain.

Spain is the third largest producer of wine, behind Italy and France, and the largest area of vineyards in the world. With these figures, Spain has established itself as the third largest exporter of wine by value and second in volume as ICEX.

Despite maintaining China trade war with the European Union, and reprisals on both sides with tariff increases on both sides, the Chinese are still the stars of the event in Bordeaux, in 2011 there were two exhibitors compared to 18 in the edition This year, in addition to a pavilion in the province of Sichuan. China's eighth largest producer of wine in the world, has become the third largest market for French wines and is poised to become the world's second largest market by value in 2016.

Despite the crisis, the wine and spirits consumption continues to increase worldwide, China is the best example with enormous potential, between 200 to 250 million consumers who drink 1.4 liters per capita per year compared to 52 liters in France, 51 in Italy and 23 in the UK, very little country producer but that far exceeds consumption Spain. Amounts that are decreasing in the EU, but also increases the taste for good wine.

The fair, which takes place a year in France and one in Hong Kong, does not seem to worry these figures. While the impact of the crisis affecting Europe, the space occupied by the big producers like Spain and Italy is reduced, increases for other countries like Mexico, Japan and Turkey this year and for the first time have its own pavilion. The 2014 edition, to be held in Hong Kong will occupy an area 50% larger than that of 2012.
