The river Alcanadre divides the region in two parts: the Somontano of Huesca, in the western part and that of Barbastro, in the eastern part. The Somontano of Huesca begins on the márgenes of the river Flumen and goes developing towards the southeast, beginning in the eastern part that of Barbastro, hillier, with hills and hills separated by deep ravines. He presents three differentiated zones: the saws, the Somontano and the plains. In the northern part it borders on the regions of Sobrarbe and Ribagorza, entering contact the west with the Pit of Huesca, in the southern part with the Monegros and in the eastern part with the region of La Litera.

Climate

The zone of the D.O. Somontano is to a height understood between the 350 and 650 meters on the level of the sea. The climate is characterized for counting with cold winters and warm summers, with sudden changes of temperature at the end of the spring and the autumn. The annual everage temperature can place in 11ºC. The rainfalls are descending from north on south and from west to this one, increasing in this respect the water need of the plants, owed also to an increase of the temperatures. The annual average can place about 500 mm, there being a water deficit specially accused in July and August.
