Iniesta goal to Bacchus.

Recognized sommeliers and journalists are part of the jury evaluated in a blind tasting over a thousand wines from different appellations of origin and geographical indications other Spanish and international wines from different sources, such as Argentina, Croatia, Germany, Brazil, Portugal, Austria, presented to the contest.

In this event, as in any contest OIV are hundreds of gold and silver medals that are awarded in three categories: Great Golden Bacchus, Bacchus Bacchus Gold and Silver, although only five wines were awarded the Grand Gold Bachus:

  •      Late Harvest Urezti Itsasmendi 2008 - Bodegas Insasmendi (DOBizcaiko-Txacoli).
  •      Selection Robles Pedro Ximénez 1927 - Bodegas Robles SA (DOMontilla-Moriles).
  •      Peñamonte Marquis Private Collection 2009 - Bodegas Torreduero (DOToro).
  •      Pedro Ximénez VOS Tradition - Wine Tradition (DOJerez-Xérès-Sherry).
  •      Trockenbeerenauslese Syrah 2010 - Erich Scheiblhofer GMBH (Burgenland, Austria).

Bodega IniestaAmong the winners include the new Bodega Iniesta, owned by well known soccer player Andres Iniesta, located in his hometown of Fuentealbilla, in the province of Albacete in the OJ Manchuela, that his first participation in the contest has won two medals white gold with fermented in barrel, Finca El Carril Valeria 2011 (D.O.  Manchuela), blend of varieties Macabeo Chardonnay and a blend of Bobal rosé, Syrah, Corazón Loco 2011 (VT Castilla). The directors winemakers are making the prestigious Luis Jimenez (One Hundred and Pico) and Rafael Orozco (Finca Sandoval).

The prizes won by these wineries, while acknowledging the technical characteristics of the wines are a good indication of the quality of them, so it is worth noting that those wineries, such as Andres Iniesta, have won two gold medals.
