Vinícola Soto

Founded in 1771

The Fundación de la Casa Sotogo es back 1771, when D. Francisco de Soto, native of Riaño (Santander), came to Sherry and was established as harvester and wineryman of wines in the Caldereros' Street.

Later, already at the beginning of the 19th century, D. Jose de Soto, son of D. Francisco de Soto, acquired a new winery, in the street Benavente. Deceased D. Jose, there happens to him his son D. Francisco. During this epoch, wide the stored one and the aging wine, trading already with the most important exporters of the epoch.

It will be later, about 1888, when the winery begins to export abroad. Isabel replants the Holy vineyard and important varieties interfere of it carries grafts. It will be in this epoch when the Department of Agriculture grants to Holy Isabel the Honor's only Diploma granted to a vineyard.

In 1920, D. Jose of Grove and Abad, great impeller of the plantation of vineyards in Sherry, extended enormously the business, moving to the places that today the signature occupies.

He was a president during more than 20 years of the Chamber of Trade of Sherry, academician of the University of Fine arts of Cadiz and Favorite Son of the city of Sherry in 1950. In 1945 there was constituted the current Joint-stock company, which has extended several times his capital fundacional.

Jose Soto's winery was acquired by the businessman D. Jose Mª Ruiz-Mateos in 1989. At present, all the facilities are located in the estate Cerro Viejo.
