Celler Mas Dels Frares
Founded in 1990
The development of teaching in enology forced the Facultad de Enología de la Universidad Rovira i Virgili de Tarragona to complete their infrastructure with a vineyard and a winery. The municipality of Tarragona gave a field of 7 hectares, of which 5 were planted with vines in 1990 and 1991.
The vineyard was designed to achieve educational and research purposes. So, first planted 17 varieties, among which were the most representative local and newly implemented, which allowed students to follow the development of these varieties.
Furthermore plantations were planned to analyze the effect of planting framework, water stress and the effect of controlled irrigation on production and wine quality.
