Celler Cooperatiu Gandesa, S.C.C.L.

Founded in 1920

Gandesa's modernist Cooperative winery for the production of wines was ended on January, 1920, and the mill of the oil November of the same year. The project was including Nogues's artistic ceramics, but unfortunately the civil war destroyed them. This type of construction was a test for the architect César Martinell, valuing it like very positively for him itself, it ensues from a great simplicity and simultaneously it ensues from a great decorative value, from that they never happen fashionable; being able to reach and form that idea that one day the partners of the cooperative asked him.

The order of the modernist building, it was carried out in the structure foreseen of roof supported with returns to the Catalan one, typical system of Catalonia, being structural elements of great resistance and lightness, being constructed normally without cíndricos and the most secondhand materials are ceramic elements of small dimensions, which place one together with other one and interlaced until the construction of the return is ended; according to the resistance and the dimension of the fence different types of materials are in use since it are the massive brick, the pierced brick and the tile of garrot.

The architect César Martinell projected and directed the construction of other wineries, but after seeing the result of the construction of Gandesa's Cooperative winery, this one named it " the cathedral of the wine ".
