Founded in 1926

In 1876, the lady Filomena Pons y Pons, paternal great-grandmother of Fernando Martínez, founded a company of wine and spirits in the Shore of Valencia. Little later, it began to export wines, a tradition that supported the family from generation to generation up to his grandson Francisco Martínez Bermell - the one who had managed the company from the decade of 1940 in the region D.O. Utiel - Requena - that decided to separate and to begin his own company in Requena.

Francisco Martínez Bermell began to introduce new varieties as the tempranillo, which before they had never been cultivated in the zone and, in narrow association with Pascual Carrión Carrión the director at the time of the Station of Requena's Enology, began to develop new technologies of vinificación that improved substantially the quality of the wines of the region.

Initially of the decade of the 80, the brothers Martínez Roda, children of Francisco Martínez Bermell, they took charge of the company and on having seen the enormous potential of his goods to produce qualit wines, proceeded to re-turn the vineyards of " Casa Don Ángel ".

For the first time, foreign varieties as cabernet sauvignon, merlot, malbec and chardonnay Requena got in the DO Utiel - and grew together with the tempranillo and the bobal, the most traditional vineyard of the region Utiel-Requena.
These new wines were introduced on the market in 1985, and in 1987 the first wine was elaborated by the variety cabernet sauvignon in the D.O.

In 2000, Fernando Martínez Relanzón, the major grandson of Francisco Martínez, took charge of the management of the company and soon it gave an innovative step on having elaborated new wines: it did the first white wine fermented in cask of oak in the Valencian Community.

In the night of March 21, 2004, Fernando Martínez and other four producers of wine sat down environment to a table from which a great idea arose: why not to create the best wine of our better vineyards? The best grapes of every vineyard were stolen and harvested to hand moonlight to preserve the freshness of the grapes, there arose the name of our wine: Ladrón de Lunas...
