Founded in 1987

Leandro Vázquez, a resident Cuban in the world, of visit for Spain, wanted to separate the American frenzy of the big business and to enter the quiet of an ancient and educated occupation as the grapevine, though from the dimension of sumptuosity and rigor that a château expresses. It buying the estate must have been a love to the first sight and, neatly and I please, it was born the Winery Torre de Oña S.A.

The emotions and illusions of seeing a Winery to be born were stumbling over something more prosaic since it is the problematics of day after day, always risky and difficult. Ultimately, Leandro Vázquez yielded the witness, leaving a legacy that was a fruit more than tempting for the one who was investigating new Riojan horizons.

This situation coincided with the desire of La Rioja Alta, S.A. of complementing his traditional style with a wine of new school that was totally independent and different from Haro's sanctuary. After the purchase was signed in January, 1995, there were some changes, more directed to improving what already existed and new vigors gave him that to changing the philosophy of château and of modern and powerful wine with which Baron de Oña, S.A. had given his first steps.
